What You'll Need
- A soft measuring tape (fabric/tailor's tape)
- A helper (measuring a squirmy kid alone is hard!)
- Your child wearing light, fitted clothing (not bulky layers)
- A pen and paper to write measurements down immediately
The 5 Key Measurements
1. Chest (around the widest part)
Wrap the measuring tape around the fullest part of the chest, under the arms. Keep the tape level and snug but not tight — you should be able to slip one finger under it. This determines the Kudta width.
2. Shoulder Width (seam to seam)
Measure from the edge of one shoulder to the other, across the back. This is where the shoulder seam of the Kudta will sit. Getting this right ensures the sleeves hang naturally.
3. Kurta Length (neck to desired hem)
From the base of the neck (where a necklace would sit) straight down to where you want the Kudta to end. For kids, this is typically mid-thigh to just above the knee. Traditional length is slightly longer than modern cuts.
4. Sleeve Length (shoulder to wrist)
From the shoulder edge, down the outside of the arm to the wrist bone. Have your child's arm slightly bent (natural position) for the most comfortable fit.
5. Waist (for the Chadra)
Measure around the natural waistline — usually the narrowest point of the torso, just above the belly button. The Chadra ties at this point, so a comfortable measurement here is important.

If you can't measure your child (ordering as a surprise gift, for example), use these typical ranges by age:

Tips for Accurate Measurements
- Measure twice — Kids move! Take each measurement twice and use the average
- Don't pull the tape tight — Snug is fine, tight is not. We add ease for comfort
- Measure in the morning — Kids are generally more cooperative and less fidgety earlier in the day
- If between sizes, go up — We can always take in slightly, but can't add fabric that isn't there
- Note the occasion date — If the event is 4+ weeks away and your child is growing fast, mention this and we'll add a small growth allowance
